The first season of ICC T20 Cricket World Cup was organized in September 2007. with South Africa hosting the event. The final of the event was held at the Wanderer's Stadium in Johannesburg. With India being victorious over Pakistan by 5 runs.

It was the second ICC World Twenty20 tournament, following the inaugural event in South Africa in September 2007. This Second ICC T20 cricket World Cup took place in England in June 2009. The final took place at Lord's on Sunday 21 June with Pakistan beating Sri Lanka by eight wickets.

This time West Indies hosted the third World Twenty20 a little over eight months after the previous tournament. England proved the surprise package, winning their first major limited-overs trophy with a comprehensive victory over Australia in the final at Bridgetown, May 16, 2010. England won by 7 wickets (with 18 balls remaining).

The ICC T20 Cricket World Cup 2012 edition was to be expanded into a 16 teams format however this was reverted to 12 teams and first time this tournament took place in an Asian country, hosted by Sri Lanka. The final took place at Colombo on Oct 7, 2012 with West Indies won by 36 runs beating Sri Lanka.

This fifth ICC T20 Cricket World Cup 2014 tournament, held in Bangladesh was the first to feature 16 teams including all ten full members and six associate members who qualified through the 2013 ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier. The final took place at Mirpur (Shere Bangla National Stadium) on 6 April 2014 with Sri Lanka won the tournament, beating India by 6 wickets (with 13 balls remaining).

T20 World Cup 2016 Schedule

T20 World Cup 2016 which will start from March 8th to April 3rd and It is divided into two rounds namely first and second both rounds take place in India. In this T20 World Cup 2016 these are total 58 matches take place, including 35 men's and 23 women matches, and the tournament will be held in 27 days in Bangalore, Chennai, Dharamsala, Kolkata, Mohali, Mumbai, Nagpur and New Delhi. The New Delhi and Mumbai to host the semi-finals on 30 and March 31, respectively, while the Eden Gardens in Kolkata will be the venue of the finals April 3rd.The women’s semi-finals and final will be followed by the men’s knock-out matches. There is a reserve day for the finals
Men's event T20 World Cup 2016 will carry prize money total $ 5.6 million, an increase of 86 percent from the tournament in 2014, while the total prize money for the women's event is $ 400,000, which represents an increase of 122 percent from the event Bangladesh.

According to the men's event format, eight sides in two groups of four, will feature in the first round matches with the group winners joining eight sides in the Super 10 stage (two groups of five teams). The top two sides from both the Super 10 Groups will then qualify for the semi-finals. In the women's event, the 10 sides will be divided into two groups and the top two sides from each group will progress to the semi-finals.
